Hello to anyone reading, I am very excited to welcome you to this website! I've been wanting to make it for a while, and although I have much more to do and add, I am proud to present it so far.
I have a deep passion for the ancient world, from the early bronze age to the Roman empire, and I particularly love reading ancient texts- I think it is absolutely incredible that we can read the words of people from thousands of years ago. It is a personal connection that is only possible when reading the original text.
But reading ancient languages can be quite difficult. More difficult than reading modern languages, partly because they are more removed from our conventions and social norms, but also because the resources you need to read ancient languages are often much less accessible.
The first of those problems can only be solved by practice and exposure- getting used to the style and world of the texts. But the second is why I have made this website. I strongly believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn whatever they want, and the ancient world is already niche enough, without restricting people's access to it further.
In my own quest to learn languages, this is a problem I have come across. While some languages, like Latin, have more resources online than others, it can be very hard to find help with a translation. And if you don't have access to an expert who can answer your questions, it can often lead to a dead-end.
This website is of course not a solution to this problem, at least not for the near future, but as the amount of stuff on here grows, I hope it can help some people out, or at least provide some interesting reading.
It is of course though, also a way for me to record my own personal adventures in the ancient world, and a way to organise my own work, as well as just a fun project!
At launch, the website has some Ovid and Virgil translations, an Aeneid choose-your-own-adventure, and a guide to Latin grammar. This should hopefully grow quite considerably within the next few weeks, as I finish writing some other things, and put more translations I have already finished on here. Specifically, I hope to have a lot more Virgil, and a tonne of Tacitus uploaded. Then it might take me a little longer to finish, but there'll also be an Odyssey game, in the style of the Aeneid one, and a bunch of other Latin translations!
As for the longer-term, I plan to start learning ancient Greek soon, so you'll be seeing some stuff to do with that, and I'll also be working with ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, which is rather exciting!
Enjoy!
